On January 7, 2004, nine "Tribune Company" newspapers in varied geographical locations contacted one-hundred fifty-seven of the five-hundred eight baseball writers who cast ballots in the 2004 election. Seventy-one said they would vote for Pete Rose, seventy-five said they would not and eleven were undecided.
