The winner of this Midsummer Classic (the American League) played a military All-Star team on July 7, 1942 and proceeds from that game went to the Army-Navy relief fund.

The National League's only run came off a Mickey Owen pinch-homer which landed in the left field stands. However, did you know that Owen, who appeared in one-hundred thirty-three games did not hit a single regular season home run in 1942?

The 1942 All-Star Game was originally scheduled for Brooklyn, New York, but was moved to the Polo Grounds due to its larger capacity � seats that "needed" to be filled as profits from the game were going to various war charities.
