Did you know that this was the third consecutive All-Star Game were both starting pitchers were southpaws?

During the 1934 All-Star Game American League closer Mel Harder pitched five innings. During this match-up, American League starter Lefty Gomez pitched six innings. Because of this, and maybe due to three straight losses, the National League had the rules changed so that no pitcher could hurl more than three innings unless a game went into extra innings.

The American League All-Star squad did not use a single pinch hitter or pinch runner during this contest. This marked the first time either league did not use some type of pinch replacement player during an All-Star game.
