How well was Sandy Alomar, Jr. "seeing" the ball? He commented after the game, "You stand up there and everything you see looks like a beach ball."

Sandy Alomar, Jr. became the first player to hit a home run in his hometown All-Star Game since Hank Aaron in the 1972 Midsummer Classic, and the first Cleveland Indians player to connect in the summer showcase since Rocky Colavito during the 1959 Midsummer Classic.

Highlights of the game included the Larry Walker batting helmet turn-around and the booing of Albert Belle's return to Jacobs Field. American League manager Joe Torre explained to media why Belle did not play, "After what happened to Albert the last time he was here, and what happened on the third base line before the game - he didn't choose not to play. He said he'd be uncomfortable playing."
