"It was a blast. There aren't too many people who can hit that tarp (Bo Jackson did). I felt like I'd be let down if I came up next and hit a dribbler up the middle." - Wade Boggs (before he hit his home run)

During All-Star Games there have been four instances (to date) where players had hit back-to-back home runs; however, this was the first Midsummer Classic where there were leadoff back-to-back long balls.

This was the final All-Star appearance for two legends. Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda and his Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan. Lasorda said of Ryan, "He's an amazing man. How he continues is unbelievable. When he was with the Astros I said that when he retires they should send his arm to the Smithsonian."

When Jeff Russell came out of the bullpen to relieve Greg Swindell he became only the fifth former starting pitcher to be named to an All-Star squad as both a starter and reliever. Those who came before him were: Dennis Eckersley, Rich Gossage, Bob Stanley and Hoyt Wilhelm.
