Do you remember what happened the last time the Midsummer Classic was played in Briggs Stadium (the former name of Tiger Stadium)? Check the 1951 All-Star Game.

The home run hit by Reggie Jackson during the third inning is considered by many who viewed it, one of the longest ever in All-Star history. With one on, Mr. October BLASTED a Dock Ellis pitch to deep right center where it hit a light tower that was on top of the roof itself (an estimated 540' away).

This was the last All-Star Game for Roberto Clemente, who would lose his life in an airplane crash the following season while on a humanitarian expedition.
