1981 All-Star Game Box Score

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the box score to the 1981 Midsummer Classic which was played on August 9, 1981 at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.

"I don't mind telling you that this is a pretty big kick to me. I'm a guy who played fourteen years in the minors and never made it to the majors. Plenty of times I didn't even know what I'd be doing for a living, much less managing a Major League All-Star team." - American League Manager Jim Frey

The 1981 Midsummer Classic was actually the second All-Star Game played during the month of August. The first took place on August 3, 1959 during the 1959 All-Star Game.

Did you know that Gary Carter was the fifth All-Star to hit two home runs during one Midsummer Classic. Those who came before him were: Arky Vaughan (1941 All-Star Game), Ted Williams (1946 All-Star Game), Al Rosen (1954 All-Star Game) and Willie McCovey (1969 All-Star Game).

A record number of All-Star players appeared in the 1981 All-Star Game. So many in fact that its easier to list the four who did not get to enter the game: Britt Burns, Steve Carlton, Doug Corbett & Scott McGregor.
