This Year in Baseball Awards

Major League Baseball (MLB.com) began an online program in 2002 allowing "connected" fans to first select nominees for various awards then vote for those they selected in the categories. Those who were nominated and those who won This Year in Baseball Awards are presented below.

Notes: Each year the list of This Year in Baseball Awards varied so the chart below groups the awards by year with all 2002 awards first, 2003 next and so on. Awards are listed in the order they appeared on MLB.com and bold entries denote the winner of the award.

"I think EVERYBODY was speechless (after the Torii Hunter All-Star catch). It's always awesome in an All-Star Game to see an All-Star do what got him there. Those are the moments people will never forget." - Curt Schilling

This Year in Baseball Awards

The description (on MLB.com) of the Play of the Year Award was, "Torii Hunter jumped high above the wall to rob Barry Bonds of a first-inning home run at the 2002 All-Star Game."

This Year in Baseball Awards are the brainchild of Greg Klayman, the director of fantasy and interactive games at MLB.com, who hit a grand slam — in 2006 more than two million fans voted for their favorites!

Did you vote? Do you agree with the choices made by the fans? What bloopers do you recall and which ones were your favorite? Share the answers to these questions and these awards on Baseball Fever.
