Author's Comments

Writing this book was this fan's fantasy! I lived a season with a team of rookies and worked with an entire rookie league, then traveled thousands of miles over several years following their careers and attending ballgames at all levels nationwide interviewing GMs/Field Managers, Scouting Directors/Scouts, active/retired major and minor league players, Player Development Personnel, Agents, and members of the Hall of Fame.

The tape recorder was on whenever opportunities presented themselves: in vacant bleachers while groundskeepers cleaned around us; on dugout benches during batting practice; at coffee shops-dinner houses-fast food counters; at airports, in broadcast booths, beside hotel pools, in motel lobbies, and on the phone.

Everything in the book was given directly to me in the form of taped interviews, documents and letters. They did it because they said they needed this book when they started their own careers.
