Bowdoin College MLB Player Alumnus

The Bowdoin College baseball program started in 1867 and Pop Williams was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

On August 5, 1916, Whitey Witt came to the plate in the top of the fifth inning, one runner was on base, Stan Coveleski was on mound and in League Park became the first Polar Bear to hit a Major League home run.

Did you know that there are six former Bowdoin players (not counting Hafford who did not play for the Polar Bears, but did attend Bowdoin from 1905 through 1906) who made it to "the show"? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
