Florida International University Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Florida International University alumnus who played baseball at the Florida International University AND made it to the Major League level.

"My junior year (at Coral Gables Senior High School) I didn't even receive one card from a college, and then FIU opened its doors. FIU played a big role in my development, not only as an athlete but as a student and I really appreciate what Coach Price did. He's a good person. I think he likes his kids, I think he cares about his kids and, especially when you've gone through the minor league system and experienced the feeling of being nothing more than a number, you better appreciate the people who took the time to get the most out of your talent." - Mike Lowell

Florida International University M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Florida International University baseball program started in 1973 and Rusty McNealy was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Former Major League infielder Mike de la Hoz made his Major League debut on July 22, 1960 and attended Florida International University. He earned a Bachelor in Business Administration (2002) & Bachelor in Finance (2002), but not until he left the playing field.

On February 26, 2002, a sold-out crowd of 2,473 at University Park, the largest home crowd ever in the program's twenty-nine year history, saw F.I.U. defeat defending national champion University of Miami, 7-1.

Did you know that there are eleven former Florida International University University players who made it to "the show"? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
