Rutgers University M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Rutgers University baseball program started in 1866 and John Harkins was their first player to make it to the Major League level. A half century later Hardy Peterson would break into the majors, but get the distinction of being the first Scarlet Knight hall of fame baseball player.

Did you know that there are sixteen former Rutgers University players who made it to the show? Send corrections to Baseball Almanac.

In 1987, Rutgers history took place as it was their first-ever thirty win season. The Scarlet Knights had thirty-six victories then followed up that season with thirty-eight wins in 1988, including their first NCAA Series victory (6-1 versus Clemson University).
