The Sam Houston State University baseball program started in 1903 and Ray Benge was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

The first Bearkat to hit a home run in the major league was not Ray Benge. That trivia answer is Ken Boswell who went deep on September 30, 1967, off Don Drysdale.
