The University of California, San Diego baseball program started in 1968 and Randy Miller was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

On July 4, 1993, former Triton Bob Natal of the Florida Marlins stepped up to the plate in the second inning against John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves and with no men on and two outs, Natal became the first player from the University of California, San Diego to hit a Major League home run.
