3,000 Hits Club

The 3,000 Hits Club is more of a personal plateau than an actual award given to any player. It is, however, a benchmark that few will achieve and a sign of hall of fame caliber skill with a baseball bat. The passage of time has placed more significance on the attainment of this goal and memorabilia shows are often conducted and advertised using the term three-thousand hits member.

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the elite hitters who have reached the magical plateau and achieved immortality through the 3,000 Hits Club. Links to player biographies, pitcher biographies (those who gave up the record setting hit), some box scores, and a bold notation for player(s) who were active in the most recently completed season are included.

"Anything less would not have been worthy of me. Anything more would not have been possible." - 3,000 Hits Club Member / Hall of Fame Member Carl Yastrzemski

3,000 Hits Club | Bold = Active Player

Cap Anson was the first player to join / start the 3,000 Hits Club. During the 1887 season bases on balls were counted as hits and Anson walked sixty times. In an effort to "clean up history" a committee changed the rules of that particular season (and others) thus revoking Anson from the club. The rules were restored to their original format in 2001 and Anson is once again a member of the club he started.

Did you know that items signed by all of the living members often sell for over one-thousand dollars? Tribute posters, 3,000 Hits Club bats, theme balls and many others exist and make a stunning additional to any collection.

Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray and Rafael Palmeiro are the only four members of the 3,000 Hits Club who are also members of the 500 Home Runs Club.
