Career Leaders for Grounding Into Double Plays

Each of the following players holds a dubious mark in baseball history and each of them could easily be the hero of their team with one swing or the brunt of the fan's boos with another type of swing.

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the top one-hundred (100) all-time Major League career leaders for grounding into double plays. Note: A bold faced entry denotes that the player was active during the previous Major League season.

"So many good things have happened to me in the game of baseball. When I do allow myself a chance to think about it, it's almost like a storybook career. You feel so blessed to have been able to compete this long." - Cal Ripken, Jr. (1st Overall Grounding into Double Plays Leader)

Did you know that only Augie Galan (1935), Dick McAuliffe (1968) & Craig Biggio (1997) are the only three major league ballplayers to appear in 150+ games and ground into a double play zero times?

On May 4, 1969, the San Francisco Giants grounded into a Major League record seven (7) double plays during the same nine-inning game — losing 3-1 to the Houston Astros in the Astrodome.
