From 1972 until 1987, Gary Matthews played Major League baseball with a variety of teams. He was a successful player with a lifetime batting average of .289.

After Matthews retiremed, he published a book called They Call Me Sarge which was meant as advice for rookies and the following list appeared in that instruction guide.
