"The Detroit Wolverines (in) 1888: Ned Hanlon was the brains of the club and Dan Brouthers its muscle. Champions the previous year, the club was so money-starved that owner F.H. Stearns engineered a 15-game series against the St. Louis Association at the season's end." - Professor Ed Stephan

Detroit Wolverines Managers & Finishes

Did you know that the Detroit Wolverines played, during their eight year National League tenure, eight-hundred sixty-three games, won four-hundred twenty-six games and lost four-hundred thirty-seven games?

What happened to the Detroit Wolverines? The unceremonial loss / expelling of the 1880 Cincinnati Reds "created" them, the demise of the 1885 Buffalo Bisons put them on the map (they bought their entire roster for approximately $7,000 & they finished second & first respectively the next two seasons), and a single losing season in 1888 caused them serious financial troubles which they were never able to resolve.
