Hit by Pitch Career Leaders

Every so often it happens. One just slips away and the batter gets the worst of it. Every so often the manager calls for it as well. Or maybe the batter is dug in just a bit too deep over the plate. What ever the circumstance, batters get hit and the pitchers below hit the most in Major League history.

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the top one-hundred all-time career leaders in Major League hit by pitch. Note: A bold faced entry denotes that the player was active during the previous Major League season.

"I expect to win. I've never been content with anything I've ever done." - Randy Johnson (#6 All-Time Leader for Hit by Pitch)

Current Through 2008 Season

Chick Fraser (#1), Joe McGinnity (#5) & Phil Knell (#18) each hold a hit by pitch record worth noting — view the record book to find out what they have in common.

Did you know that Alvin Crowder holds the record for most innings pitched in a season (he had 327 in 1932) without a single hit batsmen?

Number seventeen, Howard Ehmke, led the major leagues in hit batsmen six different seasons which is more than any other pitcher in history.
