Union Association No Hitters

Words alone cannot describe pitching's second highest "club" and still one of the most desirable goals — a no hitter. These elusive gems are masterpieces of a career on the mound and a mystical feat that must be witnessed to be fully appreciated.

Tossing a complete game with no hits are all that is required to join this elite group of Union Association pitchers. A group we here at Baseball Almanac truly appreciate and hold in the highest regard during a day and age when the home run is king.

"I would rather beat the Yankees regularly than pitch a no hit game." - Bob Feller

Union Association No Hitters

Did you know that the Union Association was formed out of opposition to the player reserve rule and that they obtained their players by "raiding" the National League?

Dick Burns was never given a serious chance in the National League, but went twenty-three (23) and fifteen (15) in 1884 in the Union Association.

During his 1884 season Ed Cushman started four games, pitched in only four games, completed all four games, and won four of his four games (including one no-hitter).
