On September 15, 1881, Davy Force of Buffalo became the first second baseman in Major League history to turn two unassisted double plays during a game. Claude Ritchey of Louisville tied the record on July 9, 1899, but the American League had to wait until August 10, 1978, when Mike Edwards of Oakland turned two and nineteen years later was tied by Luis Alicea of Anaheim on August 8, 1997.
