"Baseball is a game, yes. It is also a business. But what is most truly is is disguised combat. For all its gentility, its almost leisurely pace, baseball is violence under wraps." - Willie Mays

Outfielder Putout Records

The National League record for outfielder with most seasons of five-hundred plus putouts is four held by Richie Ashburn. The American League record is only one held by Dom DiMaggio, Chet Lemon and Dwayne Murphy.

On June 26, 1935, Lloyd Waner of Pittsburgh set the major league record for putouts by a center fielder during a double header with eighteen.

Did you know that on June 25, 1937, right fielder Ben Chapman of Boston set the outfielder record for most putouts in a row during a game with seven.
