1978 World Series
Game 3

October 13, 1978

Welcome to the Guidry & Graig show! Game three of the 1978 World Series featured Ron Guidry on the mound pitching tough and allowing only one earned run to the Dodgers - who had scored fourteen earned runs in the previous two games.

Graig Nettles, who was guarding third base, was compared defensively to Brooks Robinson for this game after he personally stopped four rallies and started an inning-ending double play.

"There's a foul ball smashed into the Yankee dugout. Boy, I hope that's not (Ron) Guidry who got in the way." - Phil Rizzuto

In regards to the quotation at the top of the page, Frank Messer replied to Rizzuto, "Scooter, uh, (Ron) Guidry is on the mound!"

Did you know that the two strikeouts recorded by all three Dodger pitchers were against the same batter (Thurman Munson)?

Graig Nettles, whose spectacular catches dominated this particular game's highlight reels, went on to set a World Series record for most assists during a six game series with twenty!
