Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"I don’t think I've seen a guy, pound for pound, with more pop than he's got... It's just a matter of him getting his reps in, seeing the league a couple times, and getting comfortable. He showed me enough last year to impress me. He's very slick at first, a well-rounded ballplayer. If he connects, the ball will hit the Grand Canyon." - Jones, Chipper. Chipper Jones' State of the East. Martino, Andy. New York Daily News Writer. 27 February 2011.

In 2012, Ike Davis hit a career high thirty-two home runs for the New York Mets, the fourth-highest single season total by a first baseman in team history, following Carlos Delgado (38 HRs in 2006), Dave Kingman (37 HRs in 1982) and Delgado (#35 HRs in 2008).

On July 28, 2012, Ike Davis hit three home runs in the same game. All three homers were solo shots off Arizona Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy, who allowed exactly three runs (the solo shots hit by Davis).

Ike Davis was only the third New York Mets left-handed hitter with a a 3-homer game, joining Darryl Strawberry (August 5, 1985) and Claudell Washington (June 22, 1980).

Did you know that Ike Davis was the first player in National League history to hit a grand slam for two different teams during the same month (and he did it against the same team both times)? On April 5, 2014, Ike was playing for the New York Mets and hit a slam off the Reds' J.J. Hoover. Then, during the same month, on April 21st, Davis, now playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, hit a slam off the Reds' Mike Leake.

Ike Davis had a 92-93 mph fastball in high school, his dad (Ron Davis) was a former pitcher, and the Oakland Athletics gave him an opportunity to pitch in 2015 (April 21st & August 16th) — the first A's position player to take the mound since Frank Menechino (July 18, 2000).
