"I didn't have a four- or five-man rotation (with Vancouver in 1957). I had seven good pitchers - George Bamberger, Mel Held, Morrie Martin, Charlie Beamon, Eddie Erautt, Erv Palica, and Don Ferrarese. So to be fair to each of them, I called them into the outfield for a meeting. I said, 'You guys tell me what you want to do. We can't go on with this seven-man rotation. I said you're unhappy and so am I. We've got to be fair about this. What do you want to do?' So they said they would stick with the seven-man rotation, which would take six days, because we had a doubleheader on Sunday, and if a pitcher didn't go nine innings, I could drop him out. I said, 'Is this what you guys want?' They said, 'Yeah.' So I let them pitch nine innings. We had twelve straight nine-inning games.
