Robin Yount was born on Friday, September 16, 1955, in Danville, Illinois. Yount was 18 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 5, 1974, with the Milwaukee Brewers. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Robin Yount baseball stats page.
"Robin Yount has an adventure-serial name and choir-boy looks and may well be the finest motorcycle-racing, golf-playing baseball player ever to emerge from the playgrounds of Woodland Hills, California. He comes across as the classic hero of Ralph Henry Barbour fiction: the lean, humble, gracefully athletic Superkid who leaped from prep school to the major leagues in a single bound." - Prugh, Jeff. Los Angeles Times Sportswriter. Baseball Digest. November 1974.

Did you know that Robin Yount was the last player in Major League history to hit a home run at the age of eighteen? In 1974, "The Kid" went deep on April 13 (versus Ross Grimsley), on June 22 (versus Ross Grimsley), and July 5 (versus Dave Goltz), all three before his nineteenth birthday. More than a dozen teenagers since Yount have hit a home run, but all of them were already nineteen (Clint Hurdle, Ricky Seilheimer, Jose Oquendo, Gary Sheffield, Juan Gonzalez, Ken Griffey, Jr., Ivan Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Edgar Renteria, Andruw Jones, Adrian Beltre, Melvin Upton, Justin Upton, Mike Trout, Jurickson Profar, Manny Machado, and Bryce Harper).

Robin Yount Cycle (Box Score) | The Kokomo Tribune | June 13, 1988 | Page 15Baseball Almanac Research Library
Robin Yount won two Most Valuable Player Awards, his first in 1982, as a shortstop, and his second in 1989, as an outfielder. Yount was the second American League player to win two MVP Awards, each at a different position, joining Hank Greenberg who won his first in 1935, as a first baseman, and his second in 1940, as an outfielder. Let's take a look at some additional numbers of interest as they relate to one of the best (and most versatile) players in baseball history:
0 - Robin Yount had 11,008 at bats in a Brewers uniform, 3,142 hits in a Brewers uniform, scored 1,632 runs in a Brewers uniform, hit 583 doubles in a Brewers uniform, ran out 126 triples in a Brewers uniform, and not one other player (zero) from Milwaukee has ever beaten these career totals. [MLB.com Sortable Brewers' Stats]
1 - Robin Yount was top five statistically at shortstop in the American League in games played (5 years), putouts (9 years), assists (9 years), double plays (8 years) and fielding percentage (3 years), but won exactly one Glove Glove Award, 1982 (a year where he finished 3rd in games played, 3rd in putouts, 1st in assists, 3rd in double plays, 3rd in double plays and 4th in fielding percentage), the first Brewer shortstop to receive the honor.
3 - Robin Yount was sent by the fans to play in three All-Star Games - the 1980 All-Star Game, the 1982 All-Star Game and the 1983 All-Star Game, the latter two as the starting shortstop. The next Brewer to be selected by the fans as a starter in back-to-back Midsummer Classics was Ryan Braun, who was picked to start four straight years, from 2008 through 2011.
4 - Robin Yount went 4-for-6 in Game 1 of the 1982 World Series and 4-for-4 in Game 5 of the same Fall Classic. Not one player before, or since, has ever had more than one four-hit game in World Series history.
17 - Robin Yount was the 17th player (and the third youngest, behind Ty Cobb and Hank Aaron) to join the 3,000 Hits Club when he hit a single off Jose Mesa at County Stadium on September 9, 1992.
19 - Robin Yount was the 5th Milwaukee Brewers player to wear #19, following Steve Whitaker (1969), Bob Burda (1970), Tom Matchick (1971), and Rick Auerbach (1971 through 1973). Yount wore the same number across his entire career and after he hung up his cleats, the Brewers retired it, making him the last player in team history to ever put on #19.
79 - Robin Yount was ranked 79th by SABR when they released their list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players in the history of baseball.
210 - Robin Yount had 210 hits in 1982, the most in the American League and the most in a single season by a right-handed hitter from the Milwaukee Brewers. Yount held the record until Paul Molitor finished the 1991 season with 216 hits, the current team record for righties. Cecil Cooper, 219 hits in 1980, holds the all-time team record for hits in a season (and hits in a season by a lefty).
242 - Robin Yount appeared on the field in his 242nd career game on September 14, 1975, breaking the Major League record for most games played by a teenager set forty-seven years earlier by Mel Ott.
2855 - Robin Yount appeared in 2,855 more regular season games than his brother, Larry Yount, who appeared in exactly one game (a cup of coffee) with the 1971 Houston Astros on September 15, 1971.
