Box Score of No Hitter by Hideo Nomo

Thirty-five and-a-half-years had passed since a Red Sox pitcher tossed a gem. Who better than Hideo Nomo, who was making his Red Sox debut, to break the drought and become the first and only pitcher to throw a no-hitter at Oriole Park - a unique feat he also holds at Coors Field.

"This was really something for me. I had command of my pitches and got into a rhythm as the game went on." - Hideo Nomo

Hideo Nomo

Hideo Nomo, who threw his first no-hitter on September 17, 1996 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is only the fifth pitcher in major league history to toss a gem in two different leagues! The other four pitchers were Ted Breitenstein, Jim Bunning, Nolan Ryan, and Cy Young!

Hideo Nomo faced thirty batters, threw one-hundred ten pitches of which sixty-nine were strikes, and had seven ground ball outs and eight fly ball outs!

Did you know that this particular no-hitter was the earliest by date in major league history, the first win of the season for the Boston Red Sox, and the first no-hitter ever thrown in Oriole Park at Camden Yards?
